Paris [2022]

We stopped over in the City of Light for one day and two nights on our way back to Abu Dhabi. It was so Ashley could stop saying to me “yOu nEVeR ToOK mE tO PaRIs” the last time we visited France.

Avenue de Camoens

Pre-trip Notes

  • Public transportation: With Google Maps and a little patience, Paris was pretty easy to navigate. It was a little confusing at first, but we got the hang of it.

  • Uber: We should have pre-ordered one for our departure flight because we couldn’t hail one in the morning (~7:30 am). Alternatively, we could have pre-planed and used public transportation.

Pont Alexandre III

.What We Did

  • Eiffel Tower: Worth the visit once. Opted to only go to the second floor via the stairs, which was worth the 10 euros. Amazing views of the city. Other photo stops to see the Eiffel Tower (all very pretty!):

    • Avenue de Camoens

    • Jardins du Trocadéro

    • Jardin de la Tour Eiffel

  • Pont Alexandre III: Beautiful bridge named after Tsar Alexander III for the creation of the Franco-Russian Alliance.

  • Place de la Concorde: The obelisk once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple with hieroglyphics from the time of Ramses II. The 3,300 year old obelisk was gifted to France in 1829 and is one of a few Egyptian obelisks outside of Egypt.

  • Sainte-Chapelle: WOW! This was our favorite place we visited in Paris. The stained-glass is absolutely breathtaking. There is just so much of it. It’s definitely the most beautiful and extensive glasswork we have ever seen.

  • Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris: The inside was closed due to the fire in 2019, but we were at least able to see the exterior and read a bit about the restoration efforts. We didn’t realize the existing scaffolding before the fire was one of the biggest issues for stopping the fire (it was like a melting metal web and was very unstable/unsafe to work around).

  • Sacré-Cœur: A unique church with a large interior. It is free to visit and has some cool mosaics and ceiling paintings inside! While it has quite an interesting story, the views of Paris are also well worth the visit.

  • Moulin Rouge: We unfortunately didn’t have time to see a show, but walking around the area was nice.
