Oman Climbing [2022-2024]

Oman has arguably some of the best climbing on the Arabian Peninsula. The rock is solid (and very sharp lol), the views are amazing, and the temperatures are tolerable through a good chunk of the Arabian summer.

What We Did

Hadash

  • Camping: This is where we camped most of the time.

  • One of our friends encouraged us to buy the topo, as there's the hope the money goes towards keeping the maintained. You can download it from Rakkup, and the topos for all the other crags we visited are in Rakkup, as well.

  • The approach is a nice 20-30 min. hike starting in the village. The crag has many routes with a wide variety of styles and grades. We usually stuck to the warm-up and slab walls, but there's really something for everyone here. Some of our fondest climbing memories are from Hadash <3

  • Routes we liked:

    • Downtown Hadash: 27 Jugs and Malakas

    • Hadash Slabs: Sick Day, Movie Star, and That's What She Said

    • Black Crag: Toil & Trouble and Hubble Bubble

    • Sulfurus: The Ramp

Wonderwall

  • We climbed here with friends the day after running up Jebel Hafeet. It was a super chill day of climbing with two of our favoritos <3

  • Routes we liked: E.O.C., Think Fast Hippie, Two Amigos, and Redemption

Le Reef

  • Camping: We'd stay approximately here. It's a helluva spot to drive into and really helps to have someone who has already been there lead the way. The sunset/sunrise views are some of the best! The crag is a hike down straight from here, so suggest using your topo from Rakkup to get there.

  • Routes we liked: The Three Musketeers, Denisa, and High on Crack

Wall of Shadows

  • TBH, the approach for this one is a bit of a challenge. It's a solid hike/scramble, so pack accordingly. Camping for this one was down the road at the same spot listed above for La Reef. The climbing itself if pretty amazing. Set on a ledge, there are some really great routes, as well as the occasional sandbag (ahem, Le Temps du Bon Temps)

  • Routes we liked: Shawarmax, Tribu Des Wadis, and Gaston

Dibba, Musandam Deepwater Solo (DWS)

  • We did DWS in Musandam for a friend's birthday, and we really wish we'd gone again while we were in the area. The friend who organized it chartered a dhow to take us around to all of the good spots, as well as serve us all kinds of tasty snacks and tea. You'll need a passport and a special type of visa to visit Musandam, be sure to look into that if you don't have a tour book everything for you.

  • We really only played around at two areas: Shark Bay Mohamed's Wall and Conga. Both were amazing.
